Snapseed from Nik Software FREE 'til 9/23/2011

If you've been tempted by Snapseed for the iPad, I highly recommend you download it and give it a try. Particularly before 9/23/2011. The software is free!

Normally, it's priced at $4.99 and I caught it when it was reduced to $1.99 so it's definitely a bargain. I highly recommend this App since it works wonderfully well and is very powerful.

Off-Topic - Google + (Plus) Invites

Sorry for the off-topic posting, however, I've been able to get a Google + account and want to pass along my good fortune to others who may want one. Just send an email to my Gmail account here:

ambroseliao at gmail dot com

Of course, remove all the spaces, replace the "at" with an "@" and replace the "dot" with a "."

If you don't know what Google + Plus is, it's the new social networking site that's a direct competitor to Facebook. It is a bit more open and seems to be a bit more secure than FB as well as being more capable and infinitely less burdened with ads, "pokes" and other fluff.

I'll try to get the invite out to you as quickly as possible.

One note:After giving out invites for a day or two, I've found that Gmail and Yahoo email accounts get an invite almost immediately and others either are delay or don't get them at all...

Keep that in mind when you send me the request.

Thanks,
Ambrose

The Wonders of iMovie on the iPad 2

I'm now totally convinced of how wonderful iMovie on the iPad 2 is. It makes HD video capture, editing and uploading completely effortless.

Here are the steps I used to capture this movie from this past weekend's dog shows where my dog Cosmo was entered...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMM-GLpLLkU

1. Capture the different dogs as they were shown.
2. Open iMovie on the iPad 2.
3. Double tap the different videos in the order that I wanted. They drop into the timeline.
4. Select the Theme that I wanted to use (primarily for the background music)
5. Upload to Youtube or Facebook.

Really, it's that easy! No complicated transfers, no complicated software to learn, no going to a different website or application in order to upload. It's all completely easy and all in one $4.99 app!

GoSkyWatch Planetarium App

I've just discovered this wonderful App for my iPad that I wanted to share. It's called GoSkyWatch Planetarium. http://www.gosoftworks.com/GoSkyWatch/GoSkyWatch.html

The interface is very clean and shows what looks like a planisphere, except, when you hold it up to the sky, you'll notice that the stars move exactly the same way you do! In fact, it's showing you exactly what you're seeing in the sky exactly where you have your iPad pointed. This is a revelation when you first use it. As you would guess, unpinching the screen brings you closer to the stars and pinching zooms you back out.

the best part about this software is that it is free. There's a paid version, but I'm not sure what it offers. I just wanted to let everyone know about the pinching part first!

Thanks,
Ambrose

iMovie and Garageband are amazing!

I've only been playing with them for one day, but I am astounded and amazed by Garageband and iMovie on the iPad. The totally intuitive interface and the wonderful features add up to a terrific experience. I look forward to learning more.

It's the best $4.99/each I've spent in a while!

New iPad 2 Owner!

Hello!

I am a new iPad user. I just received my iPad 2 from Apple last Friday the 22nd of April, 2011. :)

I hope to be able to post some useful information on the iPad here. I know I'm new to the iPad, but I've been an avid Mac user since 1990 and an iPod Touch 3 user since December 25, 2009.

Keep in touch and let's see what develops here.

Thanks,
Ambrose
